Warren Buffett

warren_buffett.jpgIn class we learned about Zell Kravinsky and his amazing acts of charity. This man, Warren Buffett, could very well be the next "Zell Kravinsky". Named the second-richest man in the world by Forbes Magazine, Buffett is donating a huge part of his large fortune to charity, with most of it going towards the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Coincidentally, both Buffett and Kravinsky share many things in common. Let us take a look at a few of their similarities:

Philanthropy
Both Kravinsky and Buffett have committed their fortune to charitable causes
· Kravinsky- Donated his $45 million fortune to various organizations that help save lives. Gave off one of his kidneys when he found out that someone
needed it and he could survive with one; wanted to donate his remaining kidney but his family would not allow him to.
· Buffett- Committed to giving away his $44 billion fortune to charity. Over 80% will be donated to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, around $30
billion dollars. This will be the biggest contribution ever made in the history of the United States.

Natural Talent With Investing And Real Estate
Both have the gift of making money grow and amassing a large fortune by investing
· Kravinsky- Has said that even as a child he was better at managing money than his father. Started out with not a lot but after a few real estate purchases he became extremely wealthy.
· Buffett- Made his first stock purchase when he was 11. Bought 40 acres of land, with money he made delivering newspapers, when he was 14 and rented it to farmers. Using $100 of his own money and investments from family and friends, he started his own company and watched it rise to the power it is today.

Unselfish
Both are wealthy but they still live in the same house they have lived in since before they became extremely rich.
· Kravinsky- Still lives in the same house he bought in 1996. Many people have said that the house is very shabby and broken down. He refuses to move into a new larger home even though he has the money for it.
· Buffett- Still lives in the same house he bought in 1958 in Nebraska. He used to own an expensive home in California but later sold it. Compared to other CEOs in other successful companies, his salary is extremely low.
